Although this takes a nutritious and healthy ingredient, and makes it decidedly less so – this is a really tasty side dish. Also, by frying rather than boiling the cabbage it will stay firmer and more crunchy.



  • 1 dessert spoon of oil
  • 1/4 of a cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1-2 rashers of bacon (back or streaky), thinly sliced


  1. Sauté the bacon then add the other ingredients as the bacon starts to crispen.
  2. Continue until the cabbage is cooked but still firm.
